Yes, it happens just with via drivers! Openchrome displays correct depth!
I just tried jaunty beta and the last rev of openchrome with no luck. All i can get when i start gdm are colured screens :\

Without "normal" effects you dont have compiz running at all... So you were trying to use compiz effects without compiz :D
Just edit /usr/bin/compiz and add "via" in the withelist section and you...

I tried the "2d only" drivers and they seem to work better than the latest! You can use Hwcursor and compiz runs better (they should ben just for 2d... boh!). The only problem is that i cant use...

Im quite disappointed with via drivers.... 32/24 bits doesnt work: you can see it watching some photos or even the ubuntu gdm screen (the brown one).
HWCursor doesnt work, and this makes compiz...

Update: i made via's driver work :) Now i get more than 400 fps with glxgears. (this works just with intrepid)
