matthiasak, good to hear it. All that's important to me is good 2d and video. Glad to hear it works well.
Looks like Dell is moving away from the Atom Z platform for its netbooks.

I get the feeling we won't be seeing...
Because my Mini 12 has a Z520, and I was wondering if I will get the same level of performance as you experienced. Now I know I can expect a bit less.
Does your Mini 10 have a Z520, or a Z530?
Did you remember to do the following?
From your problem it sounds like you may have skipped that.
Yeah, I know that the video drivers are still a work in progress for GMA 500. I was just wondering if there is a meaningful performance difference between running Intrepid lpia over Intrepid i386. So...
Are you saying that you can never run an update, or the system will break? Or are you saying that you just can't run any updates if you have the backports repo enabled?
matthiasak, thanks for the info. Going the intrepid i386 route does sound very simple compared to installing the intrepid alternate lpia iso.
Is there a very substantial and noticeable performance...
How do you add yourself to the 'video' group?
kylecronan, thanks very much for the offer of help. I may take you up on it in the near future if I get totally stuck. But I'm optimistic that I'll be able to install it.
kylecronan, thanks for the info. Just 2 quick questions.
1. That link to the Intrepid lpia iso. Is that the one you had trouble installing and had to go into rescue mode?
2. When you say you...
Could I just install poulsbo-driver-2d and skip poulsbo-driver-3d. I don't want 3d. I just want good 2D and video acceleration. I read earlier in this thread that in Hardy some people got better 2D...
I believe it won't work because those proprietary bits don't work with kernels newer than the one in Hardy.
What's the performance like with the VESA driver at 1280X800? Do YouTube videos play ok?
Thanks, but I don't understand how to use this.
For instance from http://gma500.wiki-site.com/index.php/Main_Page...
I can't find that package debian/media/drm-poulsbo listed in...
What's the better way to get the binary blobs now?
I just got a refurbished Mini 12 from Dell's Outlet site a few days ago. Paid only $266 total after tax and coupon.
Anyway, about doing an upgrade. I had problems too. I tried using upgrade...
CBS gets a lot of advertising from Microsoft. Microsoft recently did a big ad buy to air Windows commercials on CBS's NCAA basketball games. It is not a coincidence that 60 Minutes chose not to...
Yeah, it sounded like he was on the exact opposite side of Linus.
Thanks.
I didn't know that the patch was withdrawn. Could you please link me to an article that says the patch was withdrwan? Thanks.

See, software patents are really all about freedom and the ability to innovate. And I foolishly thought it had just the opposite...
