I removed /lib/firmware/msvdx_fw.bin from the system but:

-3d still working
-freezing still happens

where did you get this advice?

ok, i know dell ubuntu is really a bloody mess. confusion everywhere, fix this and break that, freeze, lock, 2d, 3d, poulsbo, different kernels and repos...

i think we need to clarify the...

almost every log file linux produces, is located in /var/log and subfolders
you have different log files, each for a different "thing" eg: system, X, boot, security...

bad news.... i'm also experiencing freezes of X, no way to resume....
my acpi workaround works only to resume from suspend mode without problems (blank screen)... :S

why don't you people post a syslog?
clear it, and wait when the issue happens.
than post it here, could provide some clues...

btw, i solved my issue in using suspend mode. i modified acpi parameters as follow, and my netbook does not freeze on resume.

i don't have my laptop near me, sorry if i am generic. in case, post questions:

here is what I did

1) install ubuntu dell image 9.04 (jauntry) - 2.1 GB is the correct size
2) run a system...

i tried to do the same (installed version is 9.04 as told before and dell mini 10), but synaptic mixed to apt is an hell in forcing packets version.
in my etc/apt/preferences i forced to 8.04 every...

guys... i'm lost.
