    WinFF Errors

I have been trying to use winff to convert a batch of AVI files into an iPod compatible format.

I used the following repo to download the program from:
    https://launchpad.net/~paul-climbing/+archive/ppa

I used the following preset files (to utilse the "iPod preset"):
    http://winff.org/winffwiki/Presets

When I try and convert a mp4 video using an iPod preset I get the following error:

So, basically I am unable to use WinFF at all!

    Any thoughts on this?

    Thanks in advance!

    Re: WinFF Errors

Which version of Ubuntu do you have and which version did you install from the ppa? It should work if you choose the same version. If not, I really want to know.

In the mean time, the package has the proper preset file included in /usr/share/winff/ but you need to move that over the standard preset file. It is described in the /usr/share/doc/winff/README.Debian file and here.

    Re: WinFF Errors

I have intrepid, and I am using the intrepid repo from your ppa.

The first time round I did a clean install and used the preset file I found on your website (this didn't work and kept throwing up those errors).

The next time I did a clean install and just used the presets that were already available in the program and that seemed to work fine. I didn't have to move it from /usr/share/winff.

    Thanks for the software!

Do I understand correctly that you installed the preset file before running the program? Why?

This just uses the last file you installed in the previous session, because if there is no file in ~/.winff/presets.xml than the one from /usr/share/winff is copied before any other execution. However, when it's there already, it's used. When you remove the program this file is NOT removed (not allowed by policy).

No, sorry I ran the program, and then copied the file over.

Fair enough...well the programme works great now
