[ubuntu netbook remix] No sound on Koala UNR 9.10 Dell Mini 9

I am pretty much a newbie.

I have a Dell Mini 9/Vostro A90.

It came with Dell's own remix of Ubuntu, but crippled so it could only handle 1 GB Ram. I upgraded the RAM, so upgraded to UNR 9.4, and discovered I no longer had any sound of any kind.

I upgraded to 9.10 via the update function, and it updated okay, but still no sound.

Is this a know bug? Is there a fix for it?

I have no CD/DVD drive, so have not tried other distros.

Do you have a USB drive?

The best way to install ubuntu or any other distro fresh on a netbook is by using a usb drive.

If you download the ISO image for ubuntu 9.10 from torrents/wherever you can then 'burn' that to your USB drive by going to:

System > Admin > USB Startup disk creator.

Warning that it will completely erase your usb drive.

You can then boot off your usb drive and hopefully check out the LiveCD to see if you get your sound back.
