    some notes:

you don't need to disable DRI to prevent hangs and improve performance. The important parameter is the MigrationHeuristic one: Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy" . Just that parameter is enough to avoid the hangs and improve performance. Many systems also require Option "IgnoreACPI" "true" to boot at all.

The kernel module can be built on kernel 2.6.30 with a couple of trivial patches - you can get them from my Fedora .src.rpm, http://adamwill.fedorapeople.org/pou...8.fc11.src.rpm .

Re: Installing on the Dell Mini 12

Thanks Adam, thanks everyone who posted here. I have no more freezes since adding the 'Option "IgnoreACPI" "true"'. The other one (Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy") didn't fix the freezes.

@Adam - did you manage to enable 3D/Compositing in Fedora 11? That is what I am still missing here, as kwin effects won't work yet.

@Anyone: are you using Alberto Milone's ppa? I wonder if it works better than the ubuntu-mobile one.

    hi there,
i have a dell mini 12 + UNR 9.04 + poulsbo drivers from ubuntu-mobile repo. everethyng works as it should but powertop says that psb@pci:0000:00:02.0 takes 40-60% wakeups and my ubuntu laptop works with battery about 3hours (Windows works about 4hours). Does it normal or I can fix it?

jbernardo: yes, I have 3D acceleration working, Compiz enabled. So do others using my packages.

To whoever's running the Wiki - sorry, I seem to have screwed it up. I wanted to add links to my Fedora repo but it seems to be behaving oddly. Links you enter in Wiki format - [http://blah.blah foobar] - the first time show up in HTML format when you edit the page - <a href="http://blah.blah">foobar</a> - and when you save, the page starts showing the raw text of the HTML-style link. Very bizarre. Not sure what's wrong with it.

AdamWill: I've found that compiz isn't a good indicator of working 3D acceleration, as it will work using CPU simulated compositing. The ubuntu packages allow the use of compiz, but kwin will still complain that compositing is disabled, and the effects won't work.

jbernardo: it was a compound, not a B proves A. I've also run a few other 3D accelerated things.

I think your experience is rather the reverse of what you think; kwin's effects not working isn't proof that 3D acceleration isn't working. Compositing isn't the same thing as 3D acceleration anyway, but the suggestion that compositing is disabled on psb seems wrong. What does 'grep -i composit /var/log/Xorg.0.log' show for you?

    Code:
    $ grep -i composit /var/log/Xorg.0.log
    (II) Composite (RENDER acceleration)
    (II) Initializing built-in extension COMPOSITE
This implies that Composite should work. But, the same as for 3D, kwin doesn't like it. And for composite, kwin clearly states it is disabled. Also, using the glblur screensaver to evaluate 3D performance, I only get 16fps (even below the GMA950 on my AA1 in jaunty), which for me points to non existing hw acceleration.

I had that problem with 2.6.31, karmic, so I removed the mem= entry from grub and it booted again. Can you try it?

Re: Installing on the Dell Mini 12

the problem was with the kernel 2.6.28-15.51 so I removed it, turn down the proposed updates and reinstall the kernel. I had to reinstall also the linux-generic and psb-module.

get back to 2.6.28-15.49 solved my problem, thank you any way
