What hardware?
What happens when you try suspend and when you try hibernate?
I'm having the same issue with suspend and hibernate not working on my Presario V5000 laptop. After suspend, you must shut down the laptop and turn it back on. After suspend, networking is interrupted as well. To fix the networking problem, I have to Enable Networking again.

me too, I have an Acer Aspire One 150.
dont forget to look at bios settings
After update from Karmic to Lucid my machine stopped doing proper hibernate... Worked with Karmic... Everything looks like with Karmic, but no resume... It seems that the bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ux/+bug/499940 still persists. At least with updates from Karmic.
here's the bug I filled for my problem with resume from suspend (hibernate works fine)
