Does this work with dapper?
According to previous posts here... it should be fixed with dapper... built into the kernel... but if it is not... it may or may not... I am installing dapper in about 5 minutes... I hope to report back with some good news.8)

That's awesome.
But, anybody knows how to enable DRI for intel 845GM video card?
which driver should I use ? i810 or i915? the driver in "//snapshot" or "//snapshot/archieve" on freedesktop website?
and the release of what date should work?
I tried 915-20050707 and common-20050707, not working.

First, concidering it is an 800 series card try the 810 chipset.Originally Posted by killbill
Secondly, if you are running dapper, it may not compile with the new xorg or kernel... not sure though.
Lastly, this is a post for savage... NOT your intel chip. Please use another post or make your own post.
Thanks...

Hi,
I am having trouble getting 3d to work. Im running 6.06 on a T22 with kernal 2.6.15-23-686.
Here is what happens to me when I use the code provided.
Can anyone figure out what I did wrong? I have tried useing other snapshots, but they timed out and I have read that there are no really important updates in the later snapshots.Code:sean@becca-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install build-essential Password: Reading package lists... I noticed that gcc4.0 was installed with the build essential. The first time I ran the code as posted by arnie without the build essential. "cd dripkg" didn't work with the version of gcc that I had before (I'm assuming it was gcc3.4) either.
Thanks for the help.

Seeing we are talking of Dapper now, and this thread is very frequented I am hoping to find more help here rather than starting a new thread.
I am using Xubuntu installed from the DesktopCD
Nothing that requires 3D power works on my Laptop with S3 Savage.
This includes:
Stellarium ->black screen with an x, can not exit and have to hard power down like a windows crash
and
Google earth -> just splash sceen, wont go away, have to log out
and games like
Tuxracer -> just black screen, have to power down.
However I can play large mpg videos smoothly and with very little CPU activity.
My savage seems to be installed in Xorg.conf.:
Section "Device"
Identifier "S3 Inc. 86C270-294 Savage/MX-MV"
Driver "savage"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection
I don't know how to identify if DRI is active or working.
This is the DRI entry in Xorg.conf:
Section "DRI"
Mode 0666
EndSection
Any help would be wonderful.
