According to previous posts here... it should be fixed with dapper... built into the kernel... but if it is not... it may or may not... I am installing dapper in about 5 minutes... I hope to report back with some good news.8)

Really? Not for me. The graphics is laggy as hell and i cant run with -vo xv in mplayer. flashmovies and such are really slow and i have to use framedrop to be able to watch video.

I used this guide in breezy and it worked wonderfully!

    EDIT:
    I ran a
    Code:
    sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
and now it all works like a charm! ^_^
xv works as output in mplayer and everything is smooth and sexy, just like ubuntu should be

Wierd that it didnt autodetect/autoconfigure during install :/

Re: HOWTO: Enable DRI (3D support) on SAVAGE cards

    That's awesome.

But, anybody knows how to enable DRI for intel 845GM video card?

which driver should I use ? i810 or i915? the driver in "//snapshot" or "//snapshot/archieve" on freedesktop website?

and the release of what date should work?

    I tried 915-20050707 and common-20050707, not working.

First, concidering it is an 800 series card try the 810 chipset.
Secondly, if you are running dapper, it may not compile with the new xorg or kernel... not sure though.
Lastly, this is a post for savage... NOT your intel chip. Please use another post or make your own post.
    Thanks...

Can anyone figure out what I did wrong? I have tried useing other snapshots, but they timed out and I have read that there are no really important updates in the later snapshots.

I noticed that gcc4.0 was installed with the build essential. The first time I ran the code as posted by arnie without the build essential. "cd dripkg" didn't work with the version of gcc that I had before (I'm assuming it was gcc3.4) either.

    Thanks for the help.

Re: HOWTO: Enable DRI (3D support) on SAVAGE cards

Seeing we are talking of Dapper now, and this thread is very frequented I am hoping to find more help here rather than starting a new thread.
I am using Xubuntu installed from the DesktopCD

Nothing that requires 3D power works on my Laptop with S3 Savage.

    This includes:
Stellarium ->black screen with an x, can not exit and have to hard power down like a windows crash
    and
Google earth -> just splash sceen, wont go away, have to log out
    and games like
Tuxracer -> just black screen, have to power down.

However I can play large mpg videos smoothly and with very little CPU activity.

My savage seems to be installed in Xorg.conf.:
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "S3 Inc. 86C270-294 Savage/MX-MV"
    Driver "savage"
    BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
    EndSection

I don't know how to identify if DRI is active or working.

This is the DRI entry in Xorg.conf:
    Section "DRI"
    Mode 0666
    EndSection

    Any help would be wonderful.

    Thanks mate.

Looked all jibberish to me but I didn't see anything that looked like an error.
Got this feedback that looks like a discription of my system:
    Code:

Anything there that could be related to my problems?
Otherwise any clue where I should look next?

    Thanks again
    Cheers
