it should say something about direct rendering, in the first lines of the output. if it says "yes", it's enabled!
it never said "yes" to me, tho. dri doesn't like me, i think.

when i try to enable dri here on my thinkpad t20, it says i don't have enough memory [doesn't matter how low i set the resolution/color depth]. i tried it on 5.04, anyone knows if the problem is fixed on 6.06?

    thanks

Linux and older Laptops (4 or more years) is a pain.

Sorry I had enough of and gave up.

It is a happy WinME system again and the kids are happy with it too.

    hi all,

I tried this howto on Dapper and it seems I can't get it to work.

The compilation of the drivers went fine, but when I restart the X server, I still don't get DRI enabled.

    I even did a:

    sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

and recompiled the drivers again, but no luck.

Any idea of why this may not be working for my on Dapper?

    Thanks in advance,

    Cheers

try setting the DefaultDepth to 16 and not 24, when doing sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg or manually editing xorg.conf; that was the problem for me.

btw, has anybody here with a (pro)savage managed to make it work with xgl/aiglx+compiz ?

    bye!

The savage driver does not work with compiz. See this info I posted a few minutes ago about this:

BTW, in edgy I got the savage driver working with dri with no trouble (no compilation, etc.)

    Cheers.

I have the savage driver... in edgy, but if I remember seeing the xorg log file dri is disabled. How did you enable it?

I don't think dri is disabled by default in Edgy. I believe simply the following line is required in /etc/X11/xorg.conf:

    Code:
        Load "dri"
In any case, I've attached my /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log files for reference. Note that the

    Code:
      Option "AIGLX" "true"
    and

    Code:
    Section "Extensions"
        Option "Composite" "Enable"
    EndSection
lines in my xorg.conf are probably not needed, since all this is enabled per default in Edgy's X, but I haven't bothered removing them since last time I was playing around with the driver.

    I hope this helps.

    Cheers.
