The Ubuntu Forums have grown tremendously over the years. While we regret that we are discontinuing our Other OS Talk category, this gives us an opportunity to help other Linux distributions grow by directing traffic to the websites of these distributions.

Here is a list of the official websites for the operating systems that used to have individual forums here. We hope you are able to find further assistance from there. And finally, if you haven't yet found what you are looking for, we suggest you look for information on the DistroWatch website or you might try the multi-distribution LinuxQuestions forum.

Re: I have ubuntu and downloaded 4 distros , rate from best to worst?

Ubuntu - Easily #1 (from what you have listed).
OpenSuSE - A close second. 11.1 should be pretty stellar.
Fedora - Just not my cup of tea, especially with Fedora 9. Hoping for better things from 10.
Gentoo - A nice distribution, great in theory, but doesn't even come close to a FreeBSD install.
Knoppix - Great for rescue work, but that's about all I've used it for. Not a "daily" distribution for me.

Just my (brief) opinions. Cheers!

Fedora
OpenSUSE
Ubuntu
Gentoo

Both Fedora and OpenSUSE work very well on my computer, but OpenSUSE would not detect my proper resolution. Fedora remains my favourite OS, and along with Debian, ran better than XP did.
Edit: I'm not picking on XP, and think it's an excellent OS, and only mentioned it because it's came pre-installed on my PC.

Ubuntu
Fedora
Gentoo
OpenSUSE - I will never understand why people like this distro. It is slow with crappy hardware detection. Yast has always sucked, and there is no exception in 11.0.

Re: I have ubuntu and downloaded 4 distros , rate from best to worst?

1. Ubuntu 8.10 (not older versions)-Hardy Heron and erlier version of Ubuntu came with new apps (ofcourse), but was just to slow and buggy

2. PCLinuxOS-Pretty good distro! Very out of the box.

3. Linux Mint-Linux Mint is a little buggy then PCLinuxOS and not so much out-of-the-box as PCLinuxOS

4. openSUSE-will never understand why people like this distro. It is slow with crappy hardware detection. Yast has always sucked, and there is no exception in 11.0. (I agree "BrokenKingpin")

Ubuntu- easily beats out the other three for me
Fedora
OpenSUSE

Knoppix is a liveCD therefore has a different purpose
and I've never tried Gentoo so I can't give a valid rating

Why everone rated gentoo worst? It is the best distro out there with Ubuntu.Maybe it is hard to configure? But this does not make the distro bad.
